“Quietly and secretly, it blows up, the ‘Biwako Flower Fountain'”
In Otsu, the prefectural capital of Shiga Prefecture, next to Kyoto, there is a port on Lake Biwa, “Hamaotsu Port”, and large sightseeing boats also arrive and depart.
By the way, there is a big fountain in this Otsu port, and it blows up at night. There are 66 fountains with a horizontal length of 440 meters, and the height of the fountain is 40 meters.
This is the height of 10 floors of a building!
Even though it’s such an amazing fountain, there’s no fanfare, no BGM, no announcements when it blows up, and before you know it, it’s already blowing up.
It’s a little lonely, but there aren’t many people, so you can spend a very luxurious time.
The show time is generally around 18:00 from Oct to April.
In the summer season from May to Sept, it starts around 19:00. To enjoy it, please ask the tourist information center first.
Biwako Otsu Tourist information center
It takes 9 minutes on the Biwako Line from JR Kyoto to JR Otsu . It takes about 15 minutes on foot to Hamaotsu Port.
Also, by Keihan train from Kyoto, you can go to Biwako Hamaotsu Station and the port is right in front of the station.
There is also a large Biwako Hotel on the shore of Lake Biwa where you can dine.
